Paul Asiimwe is the vision bearer of SIPI Law Associates which began in 2004. He has 23 years of post enrolment experience as an Advocate in Uganda. His practice has spanned various areas of commercial law, Regulation of biotechnology, Communication and IT as well as human rights and governance. He has also engaged SMEs on IP issues as former Chair of the National Intellectual Property Advisory Committee – NIPA under the Uganda National Council for Science & Technology (UNCST). He has also provided legal counsel to foreign companies seeking to protect their brands and innovations in Uganda and the ARIPO region. Clients have benefitted from his clear understanding of the law, state of registration and enforcement institutions in order to form critical business decisions.
Paul has been ranked by the World Trademark Review for the consecutive years 2020 and 2021 as a gold tier Lawyer on trademark issues in Uganda. The team at SIPI Law Associates has been applauded for excellent work and the firm is considered well versed in local legislation and international best practice in protection of IP rights across the spectrum, as well as sound advice in other commercial law areas. He is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), a chair Emeritus of the Uganda Law Society Intellectual Property Law Cluster, and the Global Advertising Lawyers Association (GALA). In the past, he has also taught Intellectual Property Law at the Uganda Christian University, Mukono and consulted for the World Intellectual Property Organisation, the Government of Uganda and other local and international organisations.
He is an avid technology enthusiast and loves the outdoors, vernacular architecture and involvement in his local Church.
Paul is a member of the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Global Advertising Lawyers Association (GALA) the Uganda Law Society (ULS) and the Uganda Christian Lawyers Fraternity (UCLF).
